More Information...
Bright orange and dramatically patterned, the Gulf Fritillary Butterfly is shown here atop tall yellow wildflowers. The Gulf Fritillary was the first butterfly I ever photographed and identified. Inspiration for this particular image came when I was out hiking in a natural preserve in Central Florida. The sun was warm and a slight breeze stirred the tall fronds of the yellow flower stalks. This butterfly suddenly appeared and stopped near me, almost as if posing. Even when I excitedly moved closer, s/he stayed in position. The beauty and grace of these creatures has made butterfly-watching one of my happiest pursuits…
A Note About My Technique: I’m a digital artist. This product is part of my Digital Watercolor Series. For these works, I start with a photograph I’ve taken of an animal or scene. Then I use software (usually Adobe Photoshop) to manipulate the image. In this series, I work to give it the look of a watercolor painting. My process is much more involved than simply applying a filter like you can do with a phone app. It requires multiple steps and processes. My goal is always to create work that appeals to my audience because it reflects the joy and beauty and peace we find in nature. I’m happy to use any imaging tool available to achieve that end.
